Prong SetProng Set is the use of metal wire to hold a gemstone in place by tension. A notch is cut out on the inside of the prong to seat a stone into its place. The prongs are pulled over the top of the stone to hold it.

I chose this ring with a pear diamond at about a carat. At first being a guy, I was just not sure what the result would be. I am not someone that makes these types of purchases. Purchased this ring with a princess cut diamond. It was even more beautiful in real life than the picture. The side stones really sparkle in the sunlight. Better quality and visual appeal than anything I saw in my local jewelers. Extremely happy with the purchase.
