Roy Williams Sues Ex for Engagement Ring

by Craig

You might have heard this one before: boy meets girl, boy gives girl expensive engagement ring, boy loses girl…and ring. Well, it may be a new twist on a story as old as time, but that’s not where the weirdness ends. Cowboy’s receiver Roy Williams may have been broken-hearted when girlfriend Brooke Daniels (a former beauty queen) turned down his Valentine’s Day proposal, but he was apparently infuriated when she decided to keep the rock (valued at $76,600) anyway. Now he’s suing to have it returned. Oh, to be young and feel love’s keen sting (as Albus Dumbledore once said).

Believe it or not, there’s more. The proposal, for example, was not carried out in person. Williams mailed the ring to his lady love after living with her for a year. Why he decided not to give it to her in person is anyone’s guess, but perhaps it was part of the reason she said no (you think?!). Daniels claims he then told her that she could keep the ring. So she was understandably surprised by the lawsuit he filed just a few days ago.

Williams, for his part, alleges that when he requested that Daniels return the ring, she told him that she had lost it. He then reported the loss to his insurance company (he had the ring insured?), which launched an investigation. Finding that Michael Daniels, the girl’s father, had possession of the ring, a suit was filed to reclaim it. Although Michael Daniels corroborates his daughter’s story that Williams let her keep the ring, he says that he will return it in order to avoid a lawsuit, also stating that Williams probably changed his mind about being so generous when Daniels failed to change HER mind and accept the proposal (as Williams supposedly expected).

So it seems that Williams will at least get the ring back, along with a whopping side of bitterness. As to what he will do with the expensive piece of jewelry, he has not yet said. But it’s probably a fair bet that he won’t be giving it away to someone else anytime soon (who would take it after all this media attention?). His best bet is to sell it off and take a long vacation. Who knows, maybe he’ll meet someone new along the way.
